Child Rights in Other Countries:

The whole world is crying for child right. Because the child of today are the assets aof tomorrow. In our Asian countries child rights are very much violated. In India condituion is much better. In Asian countries there are much child labour. But all the members of United nations  have to follow child rights.

Child Labour in Bangladesh:

Child labour in Bangladesh is common, with 4.7 million or 12.6% of children aged 5 to 14 in the work force.[1] Out of the child labourers engaged in the work force, 83% are employed in rural areas and 17% are employed in urban areas. Employment ranges from jobs in the informal sector such as in agriculture and domestic service, to jobs in the formal sector, such as in the garment industry.[2]

In 2006, Bangladesh passed a Labour Law setting the minimum legal age for employment as 14. Nevertheless, the enforcement of such labour laws is virtually impossible in Bangladesh because 93% of child labourers are employed in the informal sector such as small factories and workshops, on the street, in home-based businesses and domestic employment.

Home Sweet Home

Written By Anchol

I love my home because it is a Sweet Home.

I live in it with my parents in peace and comfort.

Home means safe, Home means loving care,

Where there is no fright and fear.

When I am tired of school work,

I feel my sweet home calling back.

May God help me in my dream,

To make my sweet home a real heaven.

How important is it to you for every child to be able to go to school?

It is very important that they are educated as it guarantees that they are also to be educated. It guarantees them not only a future but a childhood as well. They get to experience different things and are exposed to much more. They would be able to  build up the country’s economy which means that the cost of living would be affordable for us. The right to education should be implicated on every child.

The following is prepared by Shithil, Class 11.

Article 24 deals with the physiological needs as described by Maslow.

What do you need to grow up in a healthy way?

Answer: To grow up in a healthy way we have to keep our surrounding clean. We have to take healthy foods which are not costly but fresh and pure. We should also wash our hands before eating and eat enough pure drinking water.

What do you need and who takes care of you when you’re ill?

Answer: When I am sick, my parents take me doctors. Sometimes I take rest and take lemon water to get cures. My mother becomes worried when I am sick.

Do you also have the right to eat unhealthy but tasty food?

Answer: We have no right to eat unhealthy food.  Sometimes we eat tasty junk food when we go out. From college canteen we take oily food. These are tasty and full of fat and chemicals. We should avoid them.

What does food and drinking water have to do with infant mortality according to you?

Answer: Food and drinking water should be pure. Infants get infected from impure water. This causes stomach problem. In our country ICDDRB helps a lot to cure cholera for children. If pure drinking water is tajken we can avoid many of the problems.

Do the children in your environment have enough healthy food?

Answer: Many children have but many do not have. In cities there are so many slums where children and adults do not get enough healthy food.

Who should make sure that children can get vaccinated?

Answer: Government is very conscious about giving vaccine to children. The parents take care of it. In village and slum areas there are NGO health workers. They take care of the child vaccine giving.

Contributions Challenge 2:

Why is it important to be able to play?

Answer: It is important for children to do games and sports. It makes them physically fit. It teaches them to be discipline and work in team. It also make them active and quick in working.

What do you learn from playing?

Answer: We learn many things from playing. We learn how to response to anything quickly, how to be obedient, how to build a team, how to be patient and tolerant.

Do you also learn things in your spare time? Give a few examples.

Answer: In our spare time we can learn many things which are morals, stories from grandparents, from newspaper and from TV shows.

Who should make sure that you have spare time?

Answer: It is our teachers and parents look after whether we have enough spare time. Spare time makes our mind refreshed.

Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh:

Collected and moderated by Sadia:

Although the Rohingya have lived in Myanmar for centuries, they were stripped of their citizenship in 1982 effectively rendering them stateless. Their movement is tightly restricted by the authorities.  More than 90,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar since October when the military launched a crackdown against what it called Rohingya insurgents after an attack on an army post.

Since then hundreds of Rohingya civilians have been killed. The United Nations has accused Myanmar's military of committing crimes against humanity."They burned homes, and went around raping women in our village," says Shafiq. "They torched my shop.""They hate any marks of Islam - my beard, my cap, my dress," he adds. Fearing for his life, Shafiq crossed the Naf River with his wife and son in November, leaving his parents and business behind.

Hafiz Shafiq arrived in Bangladesh with his wife and seven-month old son [Naushad Ali Husein/Al Jazeera]Thousands of other refugees have also found their way to makeshift camps along the border areas, in places such as Kutupalong, Nayapara and Leda in Cox's Bazar, a major city in southern Bangladesh. As refugees continue to pour in, many have been directed to the Balukhali camp, which has been set up near salt fields and offers little protection from harsh weather conditions and wild animals.

This is not Shafiq's first time in Bangladesh. From the age of six, he attended an Islamic madrasa in Cox's Bazar. He only left three years ago. Educational institutions in Myanmar are segregated and, since the outbreak of violence against Rohingya in 2012, members of the community have not been able to attend university. It would take him an hour and a half to reach his school in Bangladesh from his village in Myanmar, Shafiq explains. "My village is five minutes from a point where we can cross the border - it was usual for people to cross back and forth," he says.

Feedback from: Lawrence Heights -

It was a pleasure to see the kids in your school and we had noticed that your school is an all girl school unlike ours and we think that is amazing. We would also like to know, maybe, what you learn and what you do at your school. Our school is from grade 6 - 8 and we were wondering what grades your school goes up to? Right now we are learning about different countries in social studies and we were wondering if you could add somethings about your country.

Reply From Bangladesh: Yes Friend, Ours is a Girls' School. We have students from class one to Twelve Grade. We are in class 11, Science Group.  Please click the following links to know about our school and our country.
