Introduction:

Dear LC Family,
My name is Anuschka Moella-Baktawar. I am 33 years of age and I teach the English language at secondary high level. This is my first time participating in the Learning Circle so I am very excited. I am sure that I will be adding a load of knowledge to my portfolio by the end of this. I look forward to hear from you all.
All children have rights and those rights need to be respected. Children have a right to dream, to love and be loved, the right to eduction, but above all the right to LIVE.
Below you will meet my pupils whom I shall be working with during this project.  Their introduction is in the same order as their class photo:

Hi, my name is Samirah Mohab-Ali, I am 13 years old and I love playing games and of course swimming. I am a girl and for me every child has the right to a good home.
My name is Yash Rampertap. I am a boy and I am 13 years old. My favorite hobbies are: singing, swimming, writing and drawing. I think that every child has the right to dream and realize those dreams.
Hi everyone, I am Djina Mingoen. I am 13 years old and I really, really like to eat delicious food, but I also like to play volleyball to burn off those excess calories . As a girl I think that every child has the right to make mistakes and  learn from them.
My name is Fanisha Ishaak, 13 years of age and my hobbies are: reading, drawing and playing games. I am a girl and to me every child has the right to have friends.
Dear all, my name is Eden Kartoredjo and I am 13. My hobbies are: eating, sleeping and listening to music. I am female. I noticed that many children are not aware of their rights. I think that we should have more educational programs for children where they will learn more about their rights. Every child has the right to good food and clean water.
Hi, my name is Laismohamedkhan Ambreen. I am 13 years old and I love to eat, sleep, listen to music and….steal my brother’s food..how awkward is that haha, cannot help it though, I am only a girl. I do think that every child has the right to cover their body with good clothes.
Helloo, I am Redjosetiko Iriëna and I am 13 years old. My hobbies are: swimming and listening to music. I am a girl. Children have the right to relaxation, to have hobbies and be able to do sports.
Hi everyone, my name is Rishaya Haricharan. I am a 13 year old girl and I really love dancing, swimming, singing, playing with animals and hiking. I think that every child has the right to respect.
My name is Soeneina Bachasingh. I am 13 and my hobbies are cycling, swimming, listening to music and to be with my friends and have girl to girl conversations. Children have the right to feel safe.
Hi all, my name is Asastra Boldewijn. I am 14 years old, I am a girl and my hobbies are: swimming, dancing ,reading, drawing and playing volleyball. I think that every child has the right…to be a child..take their time to grow by playing and learning.

Contributions Challenge 1:

                                                         A Safe Home

Everyone has the right to a safe home

That is why we bring you this poem

Every child has the right to live in a safe house

But why, oh why doesn’t the world take it in account

We have a good house and a warm bed

Other children can only keep themselves warm with the tears they shed

Our heart cries and bleeds

Because even we cannot fulfill their needs

Together we shall stand strong

Trying to help children have a safe home is everything, but wrong

We really liked how your introduction gave us information on every individual and we got to know your thoughts about children's rights and the things you enjoy doing. In order for us to know more about your school, we Googled you! What was really exciting was the fact that we noticed how different our schools are. It would have been really nice for us to know more about your school so we could see how other schools are different from ours. All in all this was a really nice introduction and we now know a bit more about you guys.

Feedback from: Lawrence Heights Middle School

We liked how you wrote your poem, it was very meaningful and true to the fact that every child should have rights. Also, the part when the poem states that " we have a good house and a warm bed" allowed us to realize and appreciate the things we have, and not take things for granted. We feel that maybe your school could've added more ways to present your information and perspective on children's rights. For example , info graphic, poster/picture, mind map, text or paragraph and even a video. Over all the poem was well written and gave us a clear and strong message on children's rights.
